How to setup your cage from KM Cages

If your pet is recovering from surgery, it's important to provide them with a comfortable and safe environment that promotes healing and prevents further injury. One way to do this is by setting up a cage or crate that is suitable for their needs. Here are some tips to create a suitable cage setup for a dog recovering from surgery:

  1. Choose the right size cage: The cage should be large enough for your dog to move around comfortably, but not so big that they can wander and potentially cause further injury. Make sure your dog can stand up comfortably, turn around, and lie down without any restrictions.

  2. Provide a comfortable bed: A soft bed or cushion is essential to prevent pressure sores and promote rest. If your dog has limited mobility or cannot move around, consider an orthopedic bed that reduces pressure on the joints.

  3. Prevent your dog from slipping: Use a towel, yoga mat or other non-slip mat at the base of the cage to give your dog enough traction. You don't want him to slip and potentially re-injure himself. Newspaper does not provide enough traction.

  4. Keep the area clean: Maintain a clean environment by regularly cleaning the cage and surrounding area. Use a mild cleaner that is safe for dogs and rinse thoroughly to avoid any irritation.

  5. Limit access: To prevent your dog from further injury or complications, limit their access to any stairs or furniture, and keep them confined to their cage. This also helps them to rest and heal better.

  6. Provide mental stimulation: A bored dog can become anxious, so provide toys or activities that encourage mental stimulation. Puzzle toys or treat-dispensing toys can keep your dog occupied without exerting too much energy.

  7. Use a cage that is accessible : Our cages at KM cages does not have a lip that your dog needs to climb over to get into and out of the cage. This makes taking him out to go potty a lot easier and safer.

  8. Monitor their recovery: Keep a close eye on your dog's recovery and look for signs of discomfort, irritation, or infection. Contact your veterinarian if you notice anything unusual or concerning.

Remember, the goal is to provide your dog with a safe, comfortable, and stress-free environment that promotes healing and recovery. With a little planning and attention to detail, you can create a suitable cage setup for your dog recovering from surgery.
